so enabling mod_rewrite module for Apache is relativelly straightforward, it involves adding a few lines of configuration in the main apache configuration file (httpd.conf) which is currently located in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf

looking at this file I read the header at the top of it which says that the file itself is generated by cpanel, and that any changes to this file directly will be overwritten next time cpanel generates it (which it does when one of cpanels options are changed via its GUI). so my thought is that maybe there's a place somewhere in cpanel where mod_rewrite can be enabled as to guarantee that it will stay enabled even after other cpanel config changes...

cpanel enables mod_rewrite as default, unless you remove it from the compilation options via easyapache it will always be on.
