    Hi,

I tried to install mod_gzip and I am not having a good time.

After downloading mod_gzip from layer1, I extracted the files then ran make install. I got the error below:

    # make install
    if [ "`grep "mod_gzip/1.3.19.1a" \
    /usr/local/apache/libexec/mod_gzip.so`" = "" ]; then /usr/local/apache/bin/apxs -i -a mod_gzip.so ;fi
grep: /usr/local/apache/libexec/mod_gzip.so: No such file or directory
    [activating module `gzip' in /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf]
    cp mod_gzip.so /usr/local/apache/libexec/mod_gzip.so
cp: cannot stat `mod_gzip.so': No such file or directory
    apxs:Break: Command failed with rc=1
    make: *** [install] Error 1
    #

So I went ahead and copied and chmod 755 mod_gzip.so from my other server and placed it in /usr/local/apache/libexec/

I went ahead and ran make install once again and this time I got no error. I added the neccessary configuration to httpd.conf but still mod_gzip is not working.

    Anyone have a clue?

    I am running redhat 7.3 apache 1.3.27 w/ php 4.3
