    Hi,

We have several Dell servers running hardware raid but have no way of knowing if any of the drives fail etc.

Are there any scripts that I could use to monitor hardware raid on these servers?

I know Dell offers OpenManage Server Administrator software but I am not sure if installing this would affect our cpanel/whm set up etc.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

You can use mdadm as a daemon by using the "follow-monitor" mode. You can configure mdadm to send email alerts to the system admin when arrays encounter errors or fail. In addition, "follow mode" can be used to trigger contingency commands if a disk fails, like giving a second chance to a failed disk by removing and reinserting it, so a non-fatal failure could be automatically solved. For example:
    mdadm --monitor --mail=USER@DOMAIN.TLD --delay=1800 /dev/md2

Read more about RAID tools at: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Software-RAID-HOWTO-1.html

    I found these software applications:
1- raidmonitor A Linux software RAID monitor: http://freshmeat.net/projects/raidmonitor/

    2- VARMon: A RAID management: http://freshmeat.net/projects/varmon/

3- checkraid: A script for monitoring external RAID devices: http://freshmeat.net/projects/checkraid/

    Hello Andy,

    Thank you very much.

So these will work with both software and hardware raid? (Sorry I am complete novice)

Once again thank you for your help.

Since we do NOT use these software applications on any of our servers, I won't be abel to answer your question. We use mdadm daemon to monitor our clients' servers with RAID 1 and 5. Be careful what you do on RAID servers. RAID can be real pain if something goes wrong with it, either hardware or software.

I suggest you visit the author's Web site: raidmonitor, or VARMon, or checkraid, and send them an email message, if you need help. Good luck and Happy Holidays :)
