    Greetings from Greece,

We have 1 dedicated server at Alabanza which is used for 1 free-email website. The server is quite old and has only an 18GB hard disk. The database of the website is about 11GB and the partition to which it exists (/home) is 90% full (has about 1GB of free webspace). We're stopping our contract with Alabanza and have managed to move all sites from the Alabanza servers to some cPanel servers we have.... all except this site!

This site is going to be moved to its own non-cpanel dedicated server, however I can't find a decent solution for me to do this. The MySQL database has about 6500+ tables and there isn't enough free disk space for me to zip the database and transfer it over FTP.

Any ideas on how to transfer it will be appreciated!

you can just stop mysql server on alabanza and new server and then use rsync or scp for moving mysql database files from old server to new server over the net. it is not too hard.

PS. do not forgot check ownership and chmod for mysql files.

    Hello,

Thank you very much for your answer! I've never worked with rsync before, do you have any examples on how I can copy /var/lib/mysql/database_name/ to another server? Do I need to have some agent installed in either of the servers? Any help would be appreciated!
