I need to upgrade my server from Centos 6 to 7. In order to move all my data, can I just migrate the data to a temporary server and then migrate that to the fresh cpanel install on Centos 7 or is there more involved?

    Hi,

You can simply spin up a C7 system, install cPanel on it, and then use the Transfer Tool to copy accounts over. There is no need for an intermediary system.

I'm overwritting the Centos 6 machine with 7 so I'm going to need to keep the data somewhere.

You can't upgrade your OS that way. You'll need to wipe the server, reload OS and cPanel properly, secure it, and then move your accounts over from backups. Or, setup a new server properly and move the accounts from the old server to the new..
