So I have a domain and want to switch my database to external server

    db.domain.com
    ns1.domain.com
    ns2.domain.com

the nameservers are easy but when it comes to the database server how
do I get it to be db.domain.com on a seperate server?

    db.domain on server ip 192.168.1.2
    server1.domain.com ip 192.168.1.1

    with cpanel?

When you are talking about your domain, are you simply wanting your domain to connect to an off-server MySQL server? The database connection string in your code would simply need to be changed to connect to that remote machine.

If the issue isn't just one domain needing to connect to a remote machine but the entire cPanel server and all accounts on that cPanel machine, then you would need to configure the remote MySQL machine in WHM > SQL Services > Setup Remote MySQL server area. We have a PDF presentation on how to properly setup a remote MySQL server:
