I have a spider/search system that requires multithreading perl. Before I rebuild perl with multithreading, can anyone tell me if it will cause any problems on my server with cPanel/WHM?

To be honest I don't know squat about multithreading perl and am not sure if or how it will effect the system or any older sripts.

I've had a look around and found this handy tutorial:
    http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/docs/ActivePerl/lib/Pod/perlthrtut.html

    Note the performance considerations.

What I'd be tempted to do is to actually install a separate version of perl, e.g. within /opt/ just for that script and modify the shebang lines to use that threaded perl. Then you don't have to worry about it affecting cPanel or any other scripts.

Good god! It's a funny old game. About 18 months ago I was talking to, I think it was your wife, about your free hosting script "Web". Sadly I put that prject on hold, and completely forgot your domain, and how to get intouch. I might have to think about starting that project now that I've bumped into you again.

Any way, back to the issue. Thanks for the info, and I like the idea of installing it in a separate location just for this application. I will have to look into that some more, as I know very little about the subject.

    Cheers

BTW I may be intouch with you for som cPanel issues.

i know that interchange won't work with a threaded perl. :)
