MX mail. is a CNAME (illegal) zone

I am new to DNS and I'm completely confused!

When I save my DNS zone in WHM, I get the following error message:

zone domain.ae/IN: domain.ae/MX 'mail.domain.ae' is a CNAME (illegal) zone domain.ae/IN: loaded serial 2013040402 OK

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Let me know if I need to send you further details to assist.

I think I have solved this now. Instead of needing a CNAME, I just needed a mail.domain.com A record.
