I'm trying to input an MX record where the A record is not in the same domain, however, cPanel keeps wanting to append the current domain to the A record. ie...

In domain abc.com I want to input an MX record of mail.xyz.com but whenver I do, cPanel turns the result into mail.xyz.com.abc.com.

Is there a workaround for this?

    Thanks in advance.

Yeah you have to know how the syntax in DNS zone files is.

End all of your hostnames with . (root)

So it shoud be like this:

    abc.com. IN MX 10 mail.xyz.com.

Duh. Forgot that most dns server gui's automatically append the "." for you.

I'll give this a shot. I don't know if many others do this but I searched docs, forums, faq etc. Hopefully this thread can be found.

    That did it, thanks.

    For future reference:
    MX record in different domain
    MX record in different zone
Appends current domain to end of MX record
