I've done this the same way before without any problems.
But now I am getting the error for some reason. Don't know if the fact that we recently moved to this server has anything to do with it.

When I issue this over ssh:
    mysqldump --opt -Q -u database_name -p username > backup.sql

    I get this error:
mysqldump: Got error: 1045: Access denied for user 'username'@'localhost' (using password: YES) when trying to connect

The password is correct and user has got all the privileges.

Any idea please what could be wrong and how to fix it?

Sorry, my bad. I've switched places between database name and username in the command, that's why I was getting the error.
