OK, Ive tried to make it connect via port 3306 to the mysql.
    It wont connect.
Ive checked the apf firewall, not blockin it. I tried to use a private ip that nothing is configured to excersise any rules on. Still not connecting. Am I missing something?
    Any ideas?

Have you checked /etc/my.cnf for a skip-networking directive?

Have you added your IP address as an allowed remote IP (in cPanel, on the MySQL page) ?
