I have a large mysql database, and I want to make a backup however, I have weird thing

I made backup with 3 different ways and each way gave me different size

-phpmyadmin says the DB size is 110 mega

    - backup using SSH command (dump.sql) is 185 mega

    - backup using the cpanel backup thing is 30 mega .gz file (uncomperssed in 285 mega)

I was wondering, which one is correct and why the size vary that much? mind my newbie question

    Go on, have a guess
Personally, I'd either use mysqldump from shell and compress it (especially if you want to create a cron job to create the backup file) , or generate a compressed (zip or gzip) backup using phpmyadmin.

As to the size difference, different methods will generate different looking codes, some with comments, some with different spacings, etc.

So, you're saying the cpanel backup option is the least preferable one ?

For me it would be the least preferable, yes.
