    Hi -

    If the connection is being made via a php script then make sure you have this in your php.ini file:

    [MySQL]
    ; Allow or prevent persistent links.
    mysql.allow_persistent=Off

    This will force non-persistent connections and help keep the load down!

    Making sure the MySQL query cache is set for your needs is always a good idea.

    There's a good article about it at http://www.databasejournal.com/features/mysql/article.php/3110171

    There are also links from the article regarding minimising server load due to MySQL through correct MySQL config and correct table indexing, which are always worth a read.

    You can limit the no. of connections per user in /etc/my.cnf
