I have mySQL 5.0.26 installed and already twice WHM was downgrading mySQL to version 4 and the next time to 5.0.24. Version 4 was even running but with automatic downgrade to 5.0.24 mysql was unable to start.

I want to prevent WHM from doing that, in the cpanel.conf the mysql entry is already set to 5.0:
This ongoing downgrading got me that scared that I stopped using the update functions within WHM because every time this happend i had to open a support ticket with my hoster.

Can I exclude mySQL from any update routine?
