How I fix this problem with the MySQL?

mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)'
Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' exists!

The archive mysql.sock does not exist inside of /var/lib/mysql/.

    Thank You

    Joana

    Dear JoanaP,

    Mysqld may not be running.
Try \"safe_mysqld &\" or, if not yet installed, type:
    $mysql
    $Mysql_install_db
    $safe_mysqld &
    $mysql

    Regards,

I have the same issue, mysql.sock does not exist inside of /var/lib/mysql/

Do I just need to name a blank file mysql.sock, 777 and chown mysql the file?

Why would it disappear? Any steps to fix it would be appreciated.

had the same deal the other day, my clients were p.o. go in to change your MySQL root pass in WHM it will then say it can't and reset MySQL so that it can change the password once it's done everything should be back to normal
