    Hi,

Since a couple of hours back the mySQL on my server has started giving the following errors :

Warning: mysql_pconnect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)

I tried cpanel upgrade, restarted server but the mySQL problem continues

Then I checked the server processes and found that there are 2 strange processes running and I'm not sure what this processes do.

    /bin/sh/etc/rc3.d/S99localstart
    1 top -n 2 -b -

These processes are running as root. Can some one please help ?

kill all mysql running on the server. then try mysql restart; via /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysql start
