For the first time ever, I tried to login to MySQL with their remote administration software (as root user), and my WHM password doesn't work.

Do I need to create a password for it? If so, will my doing so hurt anything? I ask only because it says "Use as a last resort."

    Thanks

The root user needs to have access setup so that you can connect from any location other the standard localhost , usually by setting up the root privileges with the "% " host global privileges,... so you can connect from a remote site or from software on your PC to your MySQL server.
