mysql.sock missing

    Mysql has decided to go nuts:
    Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

    After searching the forums I came up with:
    Which has not resolved the issue. When I look at another server running cpanel I can see the permissions for mysql.sock in /var/lib/mysql is different. What is the correct chmod?

    0777 for /var/lib/mysql and 1777 for tmp/

    cPanel Access Level:
    Root Administrator
    /scripts/mysqlconnectioncheck will resolve most, if not all, of these issues.
