A client who is using MySQL v. 4.0.27 asked me to upgrade it and pay particular attention to charsets.

Charset in all tables is latin1 and i was wondering if the upgrade would cause any problems with special characters (his website is in italian).

Will the upgrade through WHM create the right charsets/collations or will it try to convert everything to utf-8?

Should i first upgrade to 4.1 or is it safe to move to 5.0/ 5.1 ?

    Thanks

    Howdy,

You would do best to do this in stages and make backups along the way.

    Thanks!
