    I made the mistake of forcing an update to my Red Hat Enterprise 3 system for Bind. I thought the update "caching-nameserver" was a more recent version. Apparently I was wrong and it ended up borking my config file and taking all the zones out. After rebuilding the conf file and getting everything back up I see some new lines in the config file and after comparing it to named.conf.rpmsave I'm not sure if keeping those lines would affect how named works for cpanel or not.

    Here's what i have in there now.

    Code:
    options {
            directory "/var/named";
            dump-file "/var/named/data/cache_dump.db";
            statistics-file "/var/named/data/named_stats.txt";
            /*
             * If there is a firewall between you and nameservers you want
             * to talk to, you might need to uncomment the query-source
             * directive below. Previous versions of BIND always asked
             * questions using port 53, but BIND 8.1 uses an unprivileged
             * port by default.
             */
             // query-source address * port 53;
    };

    and here's what was in the rpmsave file

    Code:
    options {
            directory "/var/named";
            /*
             * If there is a firewall between you and nameservers you want
             * to talk to, you might need to uncomment the query-source
             * directive below. Previous versions of BIND always asked
             * questions using port 53, but BIND 8.1 uses an unprivileged
             * port by default.
             */
            // query-source address * port 53;
    };

    A few localhost domains and this was added as well:

    Code:
    zone "255.in-addr.arpa" IN {
            type master;
            file "/var/named/named.broadcast";
            allow-update { none; };
    };

    zone "0.in-addr.arpa" IN {
            type master;
            file "/var/named/named.zero";
            allow-update { none; };
    };

    Also a zone for IP6 was added too but I took that out.

    Should I just copy the rpmsave file back to named.conf?

    Thanks,

    Jamie

    As long as your current zones are in named.conf, then there shouldn't be a problem with your current file.
