    Hello,

For couple of days I am observing very unusual activity of service "named". It is suddenly creating high server load "named" stays on top with average of 10-11 points. The DNS zones are working fine; however, I do not know what might be causing this situation. There were no configuration changes on this server.

I appreciate if someone could direct me in this issue.

    Thank you!

    Hi,

I have checked almost everything on the server - the 53 port isn't blocked and named works properly. Well, exept the high load it creates:

PID USER PRI NI SIZE RSS SHARE STAT %CPU %MEM TIME CPU COMMAND
    2374 named 25 0 9952 8220 2116 S 8.5 0.7 2:39 2 named
    2371 named 25 0 9952 8220 2116 S 7.1 0.7 1:30 1 named
    2372 named 25 0 9952 8220 2116 S 6.1 0.7 1:30 0 named
    2369 named 25 0 9952 8220 2116 S 5.0 0.7 1:29 2 named
    2370 named 25 0 9952 8220 2116 R 4.2 0.7 1:29 0 named

Is there anything else I should check or look into?

    Any help is appritiated.

I haven't really got a clue (an honest start), however if this was happening for me I'd stop named, kill all the named processes, wait a few minutes for things to cool down and then restart named and check for any errors when named restarts.
