Named Down

    Hi

    i got a new box but i can't start named:

    /scripts/fixndc

    Fixndc using rh9/rhes3/fedora support
    Adding key...
    Adding controls...
    Adding hint zone...
    cp: cannot stat `/etc/namedb/named.conf': No such file or directory
    cp: cannot stat `/etc/namedb/named.conf.fixndc': No such file or directory
    Restarting bind.....Waiting for named to restart..............finished.


    named has failed, please contact the sysadmin (result was "named is not running").
    Done

    If you have fedroa core 1 nadem.conf shoul be in /etc . Try to run this command from another consolle.
    tail -f /var/log/messages

    What is say when you type

    service named restart

    I have rh9 and named.conf is missing in etc

    See if this fixes your problem:

    touch /etc/namedb/named.conf
    /scripts/fixndc
    ln -s /etc/namedb/named.conf /etc/named.conf
    service named start

    /scripts/rebuildnamedconf Thanks for that , wish I had known of that script some time back , so that should re write named.conf with all the current DNS zones ? where would it pull these records from ? ( perhaps from var/named ?) or does it just re build the fiie with no content ( which would be of little value )
