named has failed

Hello,

I Have a problem with start the DNS server, I have this message :

named has failed, please contact the sysadmin (result was "named is not running"). Logging in to root via SSH and running this fixed the problem for me:

up2date -fi bind-libs

service named restart

Same error here when I try to update the libs. Any resolution?

well, if named is down, you don't have a resolver to resolve the links for the package downloads.

try using an external resolver(from the datacenter or maybe you have another server), and add it to resolve.conf.

But is best to see what exactly is going on, why you have that error.

Login to the server and restart named, then look in /var/log/messages to see what went wrong.
