We have been moving all our sites to new name servers, and now i'm trying to delete the 2 old ones to free up the IPs -- from Main >> Networking Setup >> Nameserver IPs, I get this error.

We don't have access to the registrar the old nameservers belong to.

Tried to delete them from /etc/nameserverips with SSH, but they just get put back in.

I did a search and lots of people with this problem and none of them seemed to get their problems resolved, anyone have any ideas?

You will need to disable the 'ICANN WHOIS CHECK' via the 'Tweaks' menu in your WHM. Once this is disabled it will allow you to bypass the check and use any IP address for your DNS server(s).

Having said that, login to WHM >> 'Tweak Settings, check the box next to: "Disable whois lookups for the nameserver ip manager." and save settings. Once that is done you should be able to modify the NS and their IPs with no problems.

That seems to have worked, thanks.

So we can use those 2 IPs that were the nameservers for something else now?

What is the advantage of leaving this option on?
