    Hello,
    Im very new to cpanel.
My colocation assigned me 4 ip addresses.
Can I have multiple resellers register multiple
name servers with there registar with the same Ip addresses.

or another way of putting it is:

Is there a way to assign the same two IP addresses to multiple resellers to set up there own private nameservers?

It is hard to get extra ip addresses from my colocation.

And how would I set that up in whm?

    Thanks

To answer your question, no, every ip address can only have one nameserver assigned to it. The root registries will reject the addition of a nameserver if the ip address is already with a different name in the root servers.
If your colo place does not give you enough ips after you have used up over 70% of the ones you have you should move because they do not seem to follow the Arin guidelines.

am sorry to say this is a wrong answer

you can use 2 ips for as many as name servers you want.

they just need to creat them with the domain registrar.

and the easy way to check the you can do that from WHM it self after 24 hours from creating them go to the reseller center and then sellect the domain with reseller option try to add and A record and it will show you the name server ips as well

so short answer yes you can use only 2 ips for as many name servers you want

    Mani,
We are not talking about WHM here - we are talking about nameserver entries in the registries and respective in the root hints. How is a nameserver even be found? By pulling a glue record from the domain registry, meaning the root servers.
The registry does not care what you set up in WHM or any bind configuration.
Try to submit a nameserver to the registrar with an ip that is already assigned to another nameserver - you will see it is rejected. And actually for very good reasons which I will not get into here.
    Remember, the original question was:
"Can I have multiple resellers register multiple
name servers with there registar with the same Ip addresses."
And your answer did not address this at all........

let us make life simple here for the guy

he have a server with 4 ips

1- he wants 2 name servers to point to his server.
2- he wants to be able to offer his resellers name servers.

now he wonder if he should have 2 ips for each reseller or he can just give them the same ip's he will use for his name servers.

a simple answer for him is YES he can use the 2 ip's for his reseller ips.

the answer is YES you can

    =========================

am using 2 ips and i have registered 16 name servers to them.

it will not reject them unless if you are with the wrong domain registrar. and this is the method that they all use

    Thanks for your replies.

    To get this straight.

I can give the same 2 IPs to different resellers so
they can register there own private name servers with there
    registar.

    example:

    69.59.185.205 ns1.reseller1.com
    69.59.185.206 ns2.reseller1.com

    69.59.185.205 ns1.reseller2.com
    69.59.185.206 ns2.reseller2.com

    69.59.185.205 ns1.reseller3.com
    69.59.185.206 ns2.reseller3.com

And then I can configure this in WHM
Each will have reseller accounts so they can
create there own domains and point them to
    there own private name servers.

    Thanks again for the help.

    well

again the simple answer is YES

and you can add them as an A record for each reseller

and all what you need is the only 2 ips

Well, let me get a little bit more specific then here.
The only top-level domains that allow sharing of ip addresses for nameserver records are .net and .com
All epptld domains do not allow it (they use opcodes). Sooner or later .net and .com will also switch to epp so if you enter them now you will have a mess to clean up later.
To just enter these nameservers as A records in your domain is not enough since the registry needs a NS record in the root servers!
So if it is a .net or .com zone you can get away with it for right now but as soon as they change to epp you are screwed.
Talk to your hosting company and tell them that you need to add nameservers and need ip addresses for them. They might charge you a small fee but they have to give them to you. If not, you should switch providers because sooner or later you will run into other problems.
