nameserver failed @ Sat Jan 16 21:38:05 2010. A restart was attempted automagically.Service Check Method: [check command] Cmd Service Check Raw Output: named is not running

    I applied from the shell

    Code:
    service named restart
    Code:
    root@vps [~]# service named restart
    Stopping named: . [ OK ]
    Starting named: [ OK ]

    Hello,

    Take a look into /etc/nameserverips

    xx.xx.xx.xx=nsx.xxxxxx.com
    xx.xx.xx.xx=nsx.xxxxxx.com

You must see it like this.

First line is the first nameserver and the second line is the second nameserver, And make this entry be the same as the domain nameservers in your domain control panel.

Also take a look into /var/named/xxxxxxxxxxxx.com.db "Replace xxxxxxxxxx with your hostname"

After that perform a restart to your named server.

Keep in mind that is the VPS is new you will still receive this email for some days before the DNS properly be active.

Of note, if your server rebooted around the time when this happened, named doesn't always restart on boot if it isn't set in chkconfig to do so. I've seen several instances where named and imap both were restarted by chkservd due to the fact that the server rebooted, the machine didn't have named and imap in chkconfig to start on boot, and so chkservd had to restart them when it came back online instead.

You can check if named is set to start on boot by running this command:

    Code:
    chkconfig named --list
If you get a return such as the following:

    Code:
    # chkconfig named --list
    named 0:off	1:off	2:off	3:off	4:off	5:off	6:off
Then named will not start on boot. You can get it to start on boot by running this command for the run level start up configuration:

    Code:
    chkconfig named --level 2345 on
After running that command, you would then see the following:

    Code:
    # chkconfig named --list
    named 0:off	1:off	2:on	3:on	4:on	5:on	6:off
It now has run levels 2 to 5 for on. You can do the same for imap by replacing named in the above commands with imap.

Next, if it was a server reboot that caused named and/or imap to need to restart, you can tell the server rebooted by checking the last logs:

    Code:
    last
Simply running that command will show any reboots or crashes.

    thank you .
i try your commands but problem not solved .

    i use
    Code:
    chkconfig named --level 2345 on
    and then this codes appear

    Code:
    # chkconfig named --list
    named 0:off	1:off	2:on	3:on	4:on	5:on	6:off
but i change it to imap and this error shows ....

    Code:
    chkconfig imap --list
error reading information on service imap: No such file or directory

Imap wouldn't have anything to do with your sites being down. Is named even running still? Did you try restarting it as was suggested before my post using:

    Code:
    /etc/init.d/named restart
If that does not work, please open up a ticket due to the urgency of the matter. You can open a ticket in WHM > Support Center > Contact cPanel or using the link in my signature. All high level urgent matters should be submitted as support tickets rather than forum posts.
