    Hello,

We have only one public IP (IPv4) and we wants to use it in our new WHM/cPanel server for Hostname and two nameservers.

For this we used the 123.456.78.9 for the hostname (as a main IP) and assigned to two nameservers, like: ns1.ourdomain.com & ns2.ourdomain.com with same IP that we used for hostname as per article: How to configure initial WHM settings (VPS and Dedicated server) - Hosting

We have also created two hostnames for our two nameservers with same IP in GoDaddy as our domain register is GoDaddy, and created three A record (1 for hostname and 2 for two nameservers ) with same IP in another cPanel under Advance Zone Editor as our domain is not using GoDaddy’s nameserver since our domain using that cPanel server’s custom nameservers.

However, our hostname is resolving with our only one public IP. But our two nameserver is not resolving to our only one public IP. We have created a new account with a domain domain.tld and this domain is resolving with A record only but not resolving with NS record. Even one WordPress site is also functioning fine on this domain.

We know that its best practice to use two different IP for two nameservers. But we don’t have more than one IP. It will be very good if anyone please let us know whether we can use one IP for hostname and two nameservers or not. If we can use one IP for all then where we have to check to resolve our two nameserver.

Below are the more information for our new server:

Server OS : CentOS Linux release 7.4.1708 (Core)

    RAM : 32 GB

    CPU : Intel Xeon Processor E5-2420 v2

    cPanel Version : 68.0 (build 30)

We are using ConfigServer Security & Firewall - csf v12.01 and the port 53 is open and NAMED service is running.

We have also tried with our ISP DNS resolvers and Google public resolver 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 but the issue is still remain same.

Let us know if you required more info from my side. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Tarak Nath

    Hello,

It's acceptable to use a single IP address with multiple name servers. You mentioned that domain names assigned those name servers are failing to resolve. Have you used a website such as IntoDNS for one of those domain names to see if there are any obvious errors in how they are setup?

    Thank you.

    Hello @cPanelMichael ,

Thank you for your quick response.

Note that we are unable to ping our two nameservers in our server and out side of our server.

    Regards,
    Tarak Nath

    Hello,

    Now the issue is resolved.

The issue was from current DNS hosting provider of ourdomain.com. We setup everything correctly, unfortunately some reason the records were not getting read correctly. They rebuilt the named config and now we can see the ns1.ourdomain.com & ns2.ourdomain.com resolving to the IP address 123.456.78.9

Please mark this thread as RESOLVED.

Thank you cPanel staff for your excellent support while we faced this issue.

    Regards,
    Tarak Nath
