You cannot do it directly. There are third party software available to resize the partitions, but they are always a high risk. It is better to format the server and reinstall the OS with big partitions. There is a another option, but it depends upon the current hard drive partition scheme. Please provide me the same so that I can check and let you know if that solution will work for you or not.
Do you just need more space for MySQL or a bigger partition altogether? If you're just looking to increase space for MySQL, you can mount a new drive/partition on /var/lib/mysql and copy your databases over.
