I can not set permissions for any file in any cpanel on my server. I have done everything that I presently know how to do. I have a new customer that installed cgi scripts and the permissions can not be set at 755. Does anyone have a solution? This is very urgent to me and I give you all my thanks for any help.

This looks like it is a recent problem which exists on builds 8.5.3-RELEASE 2 and 8.5.3-STABLE 3

I am getting the same problem on 4 servers (2 of which I am just an end user). I haven't been able to test CHMOD from an FTP client but certainly from the File Manager, it says "File Permissions Changed" but nothing happens. Cpanel need to get this sorted out ASAP.

I see that I am not the only one which it seems that way sometimes. I agree that this needs to be fixed asap. I had got my first big account (realestate) and I am trying to install some scripts but without being able to chmod cgi to 755 then I am in danger of losing that account. Goes to show you about making promises

Do you need to change the permissions from File Manager? You should still be able to change the permissions via FTP with something like CUTEFTP..

If you are not familiar with it, download the 30day trial version got the folder or file you want to change permissions on, right-click and at the bottom of the menu that pops up you will see "CHMOD" and then choose which permissions you want to set.

My problem is that I don't have FTP access from where I am because of our tight firewall restrictions. I have to wait until I get home to CHMOD what I need to CHMOD :)

Anyway, I would imagine that our good friends at Cpanel will have things back to normal shortly.

    Won't you guys! :P

    Same problem here.

Between this and the email issues, I don't see how this latest upgrade could have been more of a disaster.

    Nick,

The next time, you put a red 'you should update now' box in our WHM, it would be a good idea if you made damn sure that the stable version was actually stable.

We had this problem as well - permission changes via the File Manager won't work therefore causing us to reset the customers password, log in via FTP and change the file permissions that way instead of just logging into their control panel and change the permissions that way.

In our welcome emails we provide details of how to use 3 FTP programs and Microsoft Frontpage to upload data... Yet today alone, I've had to deal with two seperate instances of people upload files through the "File Manager" interface (one person even created his website in Frontpage yet insisted on upload the files, one by one, via the control panel).

Given the choice, I'd try and foster that sort of customer onto some other company, but unfortently they pay my wages so :(

Server setup-Change Update Preferences-Manual Updates Only (* tree)

    *= edge/release/stable :)

Dont forget to scroll down (left frame of wHM) and do this: "Upgrade to Latest Version"

    :)

hopefully the version that works will get to release soon.

It's a little strange that the only working version is edge right now.
