I am website owner. I just have a shared hosting account and I have access to my cpanel only.

I want to know about doing backup and restoring.

In my cpanel when I visited the backups section I saw

Full Backup
A full backup includes all of the files in your home directory, your MySQL databases, and your email forwarders and filters. You can back up your account to preserve your data, or to move your account to another cPanel server.

Backups cannot be restored via that interface. Your hosting provider would need to help with restoring the account using your backup.

Tristan, I'm just curious, why didn't the cPanel developers include an option for end users to restore their own backups? And no, I don't want to submit a feature request for it. This is something that should have been included, since the day that they could download backups.

I sit with the same problem, but from a host's point of view. The amount of effort to restore a backup that a client downloaded doesn't make business sense to me, and I feel it should have been implemented in cPanel a long time ago

It isn't being allowed because backups have to run some things as a user other than the same user (such as root). If a client has a backup with malicious content, it would then run as a privileged user and could harm the server or account. We don't allow it for that reason. Thanks for inquiring.
