New backup system is currently a step back, and really need some improvements... It have much nicer UI, but it's not really an improvement, and some very important features are missing in new backup system...

Here are my suggestions for new backup system improvements, sorted by priority...

1. Weekly backups must be readded in new backup system, with option to choose day of the week

2. Client side option to download available system backups must be readded to new backup system

3. Client side option for system backups should also be improved a lot, not just readded in old single download button form. Client should be able to browse home folder and available database dump files in backups and choose only some folder, file or database to download or to restore to original location, or maybe even to restore to alternate location on the server. At least with incremental backups if can not be efficiently implemented with full backups.

4. Admin side restore should also be more granular, like to have an option to restore only some folders or databases. At least with incremental backups if can not be efficiently implemented with full backups.

5. It would be nice that file restore functionality is also integated to cPanel File Manager, and to allow client to see previous file versions available in backups, and to restore a single file from backup. At least with incremental backups if can not be efficiently implemented with full backups.

6. It would also be nice that incremental backups can keep at least two monthly backups, but that is not very important, if weekly backups are readded so we can at least have the old legacy backup functionality with weekly backups.

Hello :)

Allow me to address each specific concern you have:

1. Please vote for and add your input to the following existing feature request:

add "weekly" backup to new backup system without keep 7 days of retentions

2. This feature will be available in cPanel version 11.40, but in the meantime, the use of the legacy backup system is required if you want system backups available in the cPanel UI.

3. You will be able to download backups from multiple dates depending on how many retentions you have enabled. However, a feature request should be opened for the additional improvement requests.

4-6: These features are not available at this time. Feel free to open a feature request for each of the features you would like to see implemented:

Submit A Feature Request

Thank you.

I don't have available votes, so I can't post new feature requests. There are to many important requests that need votes, and features that should be implemented asap...

I also lost one vote on a rejected submision...

Here is a snippet from the feature request guidelines that helps explain why we restrict the number of votes:

Restricting the number of votes and submissions allows us to determine higher priority features while not getting buried in data and ideas that might take away from our goal here. Commenting on features has no limits though and we encourage you to add helpful feedback to any existing Features that you feel are important to you.

Note that you may continue using the legacy backup system if the new backup system is not yet suitable to your requirements.

Thank you.

Yes, I understand that, but it's not enough, because I have much more important features to vote for... :)

I just don't understand why I lost one vote on rejected feature suggestion... :(

Yes, but it's just very disapointing that after years of waiting for new backup system, we have even worse system than before, with nicer UI... I hope it will get better soon, and I just hope that someone from cPanel that can decide about it will read my suggestions...

Thanks.

Feel free to add comments to existing feature requests until you have more votes available. Comments are useful in feature requests because it gives us a better understanding of why you may find a particular feature useful. While it may seem like the only improvement for backups was to the UI, the entire backup system was overhauled. There is a 11.38 webinar video that discusses this if you are interested:
