I have installed a fresh copy of CentOS 3.1 and cPanel several times over the last two days and the install seems to be completely destroyed.

named
apache

And many other cPanel specific directories or content are simply missing, I receive a ton of errors during the install that simply say, "file xxxx not found", usually referring to some conf file for the particular package being installed.

I have tried all the /scripts/fixxxxxx attempts to no avail.

I have completely wiped the master boot record and started over several times.

Strangely - I am using the exact same CentOS 3.1 CDs that I used just a month ago to setup a perfectly working trial of cPanel for the company I work for to convience them to buy it... now they are ready to buy so I am setting up a trial box on my home connection and getting the problems mentioned above.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go on, have a guess
One thing you should make sure you do is:

1. Do a minimal server install
2. Install GCC before installing cPanel

Make sure that you carefully watch the build process and tail the additional 2 installation log files in /var/log/ as it builds incase of errors. In this way I've picked up on the GCC issue which caused problems for me with the perl installation and the apache building before cPanel installed GCC itself.

Where can I get the latest version of gcc?

Why doesnt the cpanel install script install this?
