    Hello,

Pardon my newbie question but this is my first week using cPanel and I've ran into a problem and all the online help I've read doesn't seem to help.

I received an email notification stating that:

Your hostname (XXX) could not be resolved to an
IP address. This means that /etc/hosts is not set up correctly,
and/or there is no dns entry forXXX. Please be
sure that the contents of /etc/hosts are configured correctly, and
also that there is a correct 'A' entry for the domain in the zone
    file.

I went into WHM->DNS Functions->Add an A Entry for your hostname and confirmed it was the correct IP address. Then I hit submit assuming this would fix my problem.

Next I found I couldn't connect to my FTP server so I went to restart services and hit FTP Server which seemed to fix the problem.

Now the site is down yet I can still access the site's files via FTP, cPanel, and WHM. Also, a DNS trace shows it's getting to my ip address so I can only assume I broke something when I hit submit in the A Entry window.

    How can I fix this?

    Thanks in advance!
    -Keith

    Hello Again,

Just to not waste anyone's time, it seems that everything works now approx. 45 minutes later. Not sure exactly what needed to happen but the site is back up just fine now.

Just for reference, could anyone explain what happened? I'd hate to cause this again once the site is live! ~:(

    Thanks

It seems that the hostname of your Server or VPS is not properly set or not resolving. Contact your webhosting provider to get it set and resolved.

    >> FTP
Make sure that FTP is enable on all the run levels of chkconfig

    >> CPanel Working websites doesn't
As you said Cpanel and DNS is working properly but the site wasn't then it seems that the Apache service on your server might be down. More explanation or suggestions can be given only by checking the server. Again ask your web host to check the server.
