Hey,
I added new 60GB HDD to my existing server, now I have 2 hard drives, 20GB and 60GB. I want to use the second 60GB for backups (30GB) and rest 30GB for user accounts.

To install the hard drive i used &Format/Mount a new Harddrive& in WHM however it asked me as what I want to install the HDD and I typed /home2. The WHM did not ask me if I want to have more than one partition, it formatted and mounted whole HDD as /home2.

Can You please tell me what is the easiest way to make 2 partitions one /backup and /home2 on this new HDD ?

regards,
Thomas

To be safe, you should split the new drive into the partition sizes you desire via the command line, using &fdisk&

When you have the drive launched in fdisk, simply use the help option for the precise options for how to divide up the drive. I'm not sure if WHM is capable of dividing up a drive into partitions correctly....

perhaps someone else can comment on that?

Thanks Travis for reply...

That's what I thought that I need to do it through fdisk, however after that how am I supposed to tell WHM that /home2 is for user accounts ?

If I use the function &Format/Mount a new Harddrive& after fdisk WHM will tell me there is no new disks in the system.

Ok. I hope someone did that before and will give me some tips.

Regards,
Thomas

I just added a new hard drive a couple weeks ago.

I found out how to do it at these 2 sites:
http://tldp.org/HOWTO/mini/Partition/
http://ituserv.ypm.org.my/it/networkcourse/UnixDictionary.html

WHM automatically uses any directory with home in the name and chooses the one with the most free space.

my ISP set up my server with Cpanel, and did a nice job. Except that he didn't create a backup partition. Also, I have two 60gig HD's and Cpanel created /home and /home2. /home2 has more space on it and is on the second HD. That is where I wanted the backup and cpanel is writing all the accounts to /home2.

How do I clean up this and create a /backup partition?
