The new roundcube RC2 has been released to the public!

it seems the old instructions to get it working with cPanel are outdated.

It's general policy that we don't begin considering support for an application until it has reached final release. However, we are aware of the customer demand for RoundCube support.

yes i understand what you mean, and indeed there is great demand, its the first webmail application that actually looks good, its not bloated and is actively developed.

i'm hoping that even unofficially, cPanel will at least recognize its existence in the system and offer it as an option to the user.

but i'm afraid that your Microsoft partnership will bring revenue from Windows, thus you'll shift development towards the windows version of cPanel and forget the unix cPanel and its open source "friends".

As of right now, the basic framework for integrating Roundcube into cPanel/WHM is already set up - we just don't bundle the actual Roundcube software at this time.

How can we enable it? are there some steps we need to take? Do we need to modify the default roundcube installation in some way to make it work with cPanel?

I'm not terribly certain on the path to install to, but if I had to venture a guess it'd be /usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/.

roundcube uses IMAP to access the emails (it doesn't support maildir directly), no problem there.

but, what looks like a problem is that roundcube uses a database to store user-related data, which means it uses space that isn't counted against the user's quota.

i believe the same thing happens when sending emails, i'm not sure if the used bytes are counted against the users bandwidth use.
