I just rented back up space from the same provider of my VPS. I need to back up entire VPS server so it can be moved to another host within two days. My VPS (unmanaged VPS) provider says that I can connect to the backup server via FTP and explicit FTPS. There are various FTP-Clients which can be used to achieve this, an example for Linux would be 'midnight commander', an example for Windows the 'FileZilla' client. The connection to the backup machine is only possible if it is initiated from your server, it won't work if it is initiated from a computer outside of our data center.

I am not sure how to initiate connection to the back up machine from the VPS server. Please help, two more days left for this.
Thanks.

In your WHM:
Home » Backup » Configure Backup

Near bottom, Remote FTP Host and the other settings below it, need to be set with your remote FTP login details.

You might configure this, and then click the Action button to "Select Specific Users" and uncheck all users but one. To test and make sure all goes as you wish. Once you get one account to move properly to backup, go back in and delete that test backup, go back to Backup configuration settings and check all users.

You can force a backup with this command:
/scripts/cpbackup --force

TBH, I'd be setting up the new server first and then moving the accounts directly over to it with existing tools in WHM.
Home » Transfers » Copy Multiple Accounts/Packages From Another Server

Re: Newbee - how to initiate connection to the back up machine from the ser

Thanks for the info below. Probably I did not present my problem correctly.

My back up (remote) is configured correctly, just as you explained, and I got confirmation that it is ok for all my accounts; however, I can not access it through the FTP (Mozilla). Additionally, I can not access my root through FTP (Mozilla) as well. I need a way to access my back up, but somehow I am restricting access to it somewhere within CPanel - and I do not know where is this setting.

Please help.

Thanks.

You shouldn't be connecting to the server via FTP with root access, ever. If the backup drive is mounted to perform a backup, it's probably unmounted when the backup is complete. Check your backup settings for this setting:
Remount/Unmount Backup Drive
Is this enabled?

Remount/Unmoum enabled - YES.

Folks at the hosting company will upgrade my server within couple of days. They will not give me new VPS before they delete the current VPS. In order to have everything restored, I added back up space to the VPS as well. Back up is functioning, it is just that I can not see it - I can not log via FTP to the back up space to see the files that are there.

The folks at the hosting company should be able to get your answers for you quicker too.

Remount/Unmount Backup Drive, means turn off and on, basically. If I was to guess, the drive is not accessible for that reason.
