    Hi guys,

Ive been using cPanel for many years now but have always rented via other companys. The time has come and i now have purchased myself a new server as i wish to host my own cpanel hosting server.

    Dell R200 Quadcore 2.4ghz
    2GB Ram
    160GB SATA HDD 1
    750GB SATA HDD 2

Now i am going to use CentOS5 on this as 1. its free and 2. its recommended on the requirements page.

I am a complete novice to linux, and am unaware on how to setup the linux partitions correctly. I wish to use the hdd 1 for the OS and main cpanel files and the 2nd hard-drive for the userfiles/websites. Is this possible?

Can anyone point me in the right direction or give me a few words of advice on how i should setup the partitions correctly for this use?

I will be purchasing the cpanel licence as soon as this is setup and requesting the cpanel installation.

    Another small thing i noticed whist reading the doc's was this;
"You will need to make sure that /etc/resolv.conf contains valid name-servers that allow you to resolve domains properly."

How do i go about this. My domain is rented via 123reg.co.uk and i can fully manage the domain via a control panel. Is this something i need to setup before asking cpanel to install the software of will that be included?

    Regards

    Rob James

I'm not sure if you've seen this yet, but there's a very comprehensive pre-installation and installation guide on our website:

    http://www.cPanel.net/install.html

It'll walk you through setting up partitions etc.

One thing you may also wish to consider is using is our CentOS 5.0 DVD ISO that automatically installs cPanel/WHM on CentOS 5 properly for you. You can find that DVD ISO on http://layer1.cPanel.net

    Thank you for the reply.

Ive ready through every installation document i can find, but its more of the case that i dont fully understand the partitioning system within linux. But that will come with experience.

Thank you for the DVD ISO i will promtly download that now and get started.

    Regards
