I have several servers with cPanel, and it came to my attention that mail was not going through since last night. Exim is up and running, and the mail queue is empty.

Speaking to a technician at a NOC, he says there is a cPanel update that has caused this for several people. However, I couldn't find that anyone posted any threads about this recently.

Here is an example of the volume of one server in the last 3 days and today
    Date Email Volume
    1/10 1,610 63.8Mb
    1/11 921 55.2Mb
    1/12 746 55.7Mb
    1/13 14 3Mb

Does anybody know about this issue?
    Is there a fix?

Yep, just checked it before writing this. No results that give a clue. A couple rejects for bad email addresses, but I've been testing legitimate email addresses with no success.

    WHM 10.0.0 cPanel 10.0.0-R149
    RedHat 9 i686 - WHM X v3.1.0

There is nothing in the panic log.
The reject log for the past several days only shows this (domains changed to protect clients)

    Date: Fri, 13 Jan 2006 00:41:23 -0500
    2006-01-13 14:42:56 H=(uwindsor.a_domain.net) [127.0.0.1] sender verify fail for <a_user@uwinsor.ca>: unrouteable mail domain "uwinsor.ca"
    2006-01-13 14:42:56 H=(uwindsor.a_domain.net) [127.0.0.1] F=<c_user@uwinsor.ca> rejected RCPT b_user@uwindsor.ca: Sender verify failed
2006-01-13 14:42:56 SMTP call from (uwindsor.a_domain.net) [127.0.0.1] dropped: too many syntax or protocol errors (last command was "Date: 13 Jan 06 14:42:56 -0500")

Nothing special. Bad domain entry, sender verification failure, script failure.

However, mail to and from the server is not getting through no matter how many legitimate addresses I try. Never even shows up in the logs.

Ran it. Restarted all main services. No luck.

Since nothing changed from two days ago when mail worked and today, this must be related to a cpanel update, correct?

Can you make sure if DNS is working fine on your server. Also if number of mails allowed per user/hour is set to 0 in WHM tweak settings.

Why not test the mail server with test email, you might try these

    1) Send a email to any email address which is hosted in the server and monitor the /var/exim_mainlog and see if that get delivered.

    2) Send email from server to outside email address and same time monitor the /var/exim_mainlog to see if that get delivered.

If you have seen a error on the log file fix it, if not you shoul be good.

    Hope that helps

number of mails allowed per user/hour = 500

    Using http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/

    MX CHECK
Trying to connect to all mailservers:
[Successful connect: Got a good response [250 Accepted]]

    DNS Lookup
Average of all 2 nameservers: 22ms

I am really beginning to panic on this issue.

    Performed both.
They show up in the log, but do not reach their destination - whether on or off the server.

Turns out to be an incompatibility issue of the update with Perl.
    Updated Perl and problem solved.
