Hey guys im just curious, ice changed hosts and noticing little differences here and there between cpanels. Even though both cpanels are same version number, the new host doesnt have virus scanner in the advanced section like my last one did, is this a major thing to be missing? Im with hostgator now, and they seem to be lacking in the security areas of cpanel. My other thread is noting how they have cpanel set to just open any email account without a password now i notice this, are the being negligent? Or is this virus scanner not something that is needed.?

Thanj you!

Your host has the option to install, or not to install, ClamAV, which is the only virus scanner that cPanel provides. You need to ask your host their reasons for not installing a virus scanner.

The concept of a "virus" on Linux really does not exist the same as on Windows, so a virus scanner's only real role is to try to prevent infected Windows machines from using the server to propagate Windows virii via infected mail and file uploads. It is completely up the host whether to provide a virus scanner or not.

This was addressed in your other thread:
