We are having a bit of a discussion here and decided to open it up to the forums for some feedback.

Do you find Option A easier to read:

Or Option B:

Thanks for taking a quick moment to let us know which you find easier to read.

I find the icon in the "Fatal" bar very hard to make out. I would suggest treating like the others: semi-opaque creating a lighter "glass-frosting" instead of inverting it to a darker color.

Good eye, David. We'll see what we can do about that.
Aw common, we were looking at the fonts only I thought. And, only the first 3 are different on both, so I ignored the other issues in the images below that. :p

Did David even vote I wonder? ;)

I'm joking here of course.

As a matter of fact, I was the second vote logged!

I'm color blind.

Another color blind person here; I find option A easier to read, overall. The drop shadows in option B, while making the text appear brighter, actually reduce legibility for me.

why not add both types? and let owner of the server pick which to use? so if he has lots of people having read issues with option A then owner of company can set it to option B :) and same if people have problem reading B can have option A and so on so it's more to make it suit how the customers want it :)

We are considering adding some options to allow users to make some of these types of selections.

One option we have considered is a High Contrast option. Each user would be able to select that for themselves.

Likely the user options are not getting into the product until after we merge x4 with the mainline product however.

Why not combining both options. I like the shadow in the text in option A. B is harder to read because lack of shadow. If the option B text had a shadow it would be great and also would combine better with the icons.
The only difference between A and B is one has the drop shadow.

For people with certain visual impairments, the drop shadow makes the text more difficult to read.
