Of spambots and blog sites - preventions?

Spambots posting to blogsites becoming a huge problem for some accounts. We've seen the CPU go from 0.50 to 50.0 in 10 seconds due to this.

Hopeing for a mod_security - like countermeasure.

They are currently hitting a blog site using the pixelpost blog package, so bad that we have had to suspend the site.

Anyone have any solution for this?

As a followup, looks like this is a known issue with PixelPost as well as several other blog packages.
