Older backups not deleted

Hello,

We are having some issues on many of our servers in which older archived backup aren't deleted. I am using the new backup system. Usually, after a new backup was generated, the folder that contained the older backups was deleted and the space usage was ok.

I searched through the backup and cPanel logs, but i found no relevant information. The problem is that after a while, the backup disk gets full, as older backups are kept. Having multiple servers with this recurring problem can be a headache.

Is anyone else encountering this issue? If yes, did you manage to find a solution?

Thank you.

Hello,

Under Scheduling and retention settings I have the "Backup Daily" ticked and on the Days settings I have only "Saturday" ticked (all of the servers have the same settings). The number of backups is set to 4. This morning, right before i started deleting old backups, the oldest backup was on 2016-04-02 (2nd of April), having a total of 9 backup points instead of 4.
This is just an example from one of our servers. I checked and all of the users are selected in WHM -> Backup User Selection for the new backup.

Everything worked fine until the end of March or beginning of April. After that, I thought it was just some temporary mix-up and I started erasing them manually. Some servers that are affected run Cloudlinux and some CentOS.

Yes, Monthly and Weekly disabled on the new backup. On the legacy backup I have a daily incremental backup from Monday to Thursday (4 days in total).

You didn't mention using legacy backups in the mix previously, that adds another layer of confusion here. If it was me, I'd clean up all but say, the last two backups. Then set all backups to be using the same, new Backup system settings and see how it goes from there.

I didn't mention them because they are not overlapping. One is from Monday through Thursday (legacy incremental) and the other one runs only on Saturdays (new backup system - archived). I'll try your solution and come back here with a post and let you know if it worked.

So with these settings:
Under Scheduling and retention settings I have the "Backup Daily" ticked and on the Days settings I have only "Saturday" ticked (all of the servers have the same settings). The number of backups is set to 4.
Backups will be generated for the next 4 Saturdays before the oldest one is removed I guess. I'm not sure how much value a backup from 4 weeks ago, Saturday, is to you but it seems like wasted space to me. I'd much rather have a backup from 4 days ago and newer in case of emergency.

I think, Monday-Thursday, retention 0 would be using the same space as Saturday only, x 4 Saturdays.
