Hello All,

I was received this message from my datacenter.
***************************************
Test results that there is an open relay on your server. You will want to
make sure your customers are not using out of date formmail scripts. I
seen they you had a few customers using them. I would also check
forums.ev1servers.net and exim.org for information on how to close open
relays.
***************************************

How can I close open relays?

Please help me...
Thanks,

check
forums.ev1servers.net and exim.org for information on how to close open
relays.
either do that or run this command:

rm -rf /

that should close any security holes you have....

**** DO NOT RUN THIS . IT WILL DELETE YOUR WHOLE SERVER. THE USER WHO POSTED IT HAS BEEN BANNED *****

At least add a disclaimer to advice like that.

Anyone taking that advice should also delete all backups prior to running the command for maximum effeciency.

I sincerely hope that people don't take that seriously. To all newbies, DO NOT RUN THAT COMMAND.

Very irresponsible to post info that will wipe someones server. If you don't want to be helpful move on to the next post.

mjm everybody knows you are very leet, and knows everything to give that advice.

I sincerely just hope, you never, but never need any help from anyone... if you do, remember the solution to all your problems "rm -rf /"

I have an RS 8.4.0-S87 server and last night ordb did an open relay check on it. Result was no open relays. My only mod is to change formmail cgi to another name. RS should have given you at least some emails to work with.

One of my servers is on a list of monkey.com because of open relay.

When running dnsreport.com it reports no open relays.

What can this be??

/scripts/fixrelayd
/etc/rc.d/init.d/antirelayd restart
service exim restart

perhaps one of the admins should put the note about not running that command *above* the actual command for most of us read the post top to bottom and I am sure some newbie will try it without reading the entire post.

Or delete the thing all together!
