    Every now and then a customer wants to be able to do file uploads via php and finds that due to the open_basedir security they cannot access something like /var/tmp/phpxxxxxx

    Is there something else you can do besides relaxing open_basedir for that client ?. I know in the old days we didnt have this ability to restrict them but now that we can some people need it removed and I am concerned about the security of the system when they can access just about anywhere.

    Tell them to use move_uploaded_file() function.

    move_uploaded_file($_FILES['file1']['tmp_name'], $new_dest);
