I know this may seem a silly question however it is important one!

Obviously it has been stated that cpanel/whm must be installed on a clean system and I understand why. If a another application was installed (for example something like OTRS www.otrs.org or subversion) would it work ok? and if cp/whm got some updates could it start breaking such apps?

What I suppose I am truely asking is, can a server with cpanel/whm installed on it be used for anything else with minimal hassle?

    TIA :)

You should be able to install such things without problems from cPanl. In fact, the whole point of cPanel is to provide you with the environment to run such pre-built applications from within your own cPanel account which you upload into your own public_html directory.

Just to clarify these applications I'm referring to are more than just a few php scripts. For example they both require new users to be added to the system. Is this still ok?

Looking at the OTRS installation guide, it shouldn't be a problem.

I run subversion as a non-root user on a cpanel/whm box and it works seamlessly. All you have to do is set subversion up on another port.

I guess the problem here would be checking bandwidth on that port since cpanel does not.
Got a question today from a customer if we could set up CVS or SVN and Im curious on how it might impact on CPU / bandwidth on a shared server. It is of course depending on # of users and files.
