    I've been reading the various Outlook and OutExpress (OE) notes about email problems but no solutions that seem to apply, so posting this to clarify a little.

    Cpanel:
    email acct set up, works both recv-in and send-out in webmail, Horde. All works ok. I have 3 accounts under one Billing name, but 3 differenc logins to cpanel.

    Desktop: (example info)
    Outlook (and tried w/OE) settings.
    Acct name doe@web.com
    POP3: mail.web.com (also used the IP)
    SMTP: mail.web.com

    Acct: doe@web.com
    psrd: doeweb
    remember password= yes
    authentication: yes and no tried both

    Port: 25
    Income: 110

    ~~~~Errors out when sending ~~~
    0x800CCC0E FAILED_TO_CONNECT Cannot connect to server.
    0x800CCC0F CONNECTION_DROPPED Connection closed.
    Checked the links suggested, but as you can see not much help.
    Running Norton Antivirus and Norton Internet Sec
    Tried disabling both, no affect.
    Webhost tried with new accounts set up on their machines and cpanel, worked ok for them - they sent from home box & I recieved ok - I couldn't reply - errored out (above). Would suggest that it's on my desktop. Not sure that it is.
    Desktop recieves all e-mails just fine.
    If replying or trying to send one out, I just get the above errors. Out box is full of e-mails waiting to go.
    I have deleted and re-set up accounts trying various settings, both on desktop and cpanel.
    It seems to me, what little I know, that the send mail is knocking on the webhosts door, but can't get in. I'm thinking it's a block on that end. They use Spamassin, but claims has nothing to do with it as other, includeing there machines don't have a problem.
    anythoughts??
    thanx
    Some ISPs block port 25. Try typing at the command line:
    telnet mail.web.com 25
    If you cannot connect that is probabaly the problem.
    You can ask your Webhost if they have port 26 configured for mail in addition to port 25. If they do, change your outlook to use port 26.
    Again, test the
    telnet mail.web.com 26
    if you can connect all should be well.
    Ok checked with telnet 25 = no connection
    Webhost checked, spam blockers etc.
    changed to 26 and 1025..
    He could connect I couldn't, tried telnet on both name
    mail.web.com and ip 123.45.67..... 25, 26, 1025
    He is able to make connections
    I get error messages like "connection to host lost..."
    Also host ran a test from the server and it says your email from that site is working good - guess through cpanel
    Next step??
    thanx, I thought we had somethingthere...
    Also norton Internet Security popup Allow it to go through so would guess it's not be blocked by norton...
    thanx
    Glad it worked out!
    This forum is a good resource; lots of activity here!
    I've learned a great deal here as I ventured on with my first dedicated server. :)
    Good Luck!
