I host a domain "x.com" and provide a service on one of it's subdomains, "service.x.com".

Other business subscribe to using that service on their own website and then setup a cname of "service.business.com -> service.x.com" and then send traffic to service.business.com, which is handled by service.x.com

This is done via http and https. When they want https they provide me with the cert that matches "service.business.com"

Up to this point I haven't found the "right" way to add these subdomains. If I try to park them whm/cpanel sees that the dns for that site isn't under it's control, so it doesn't allow it. (Kinda dumb...)

I can hand-edit the apache vhost file, but then the next time it's built, presto, all the changes are gone and all my customers are broke. This typically happens around 4 or 5 am, whenever whm decides it feels like an upgrade.

What's the best-practice for adding these "parked" domains onto my site?

    Thanks!

    Hello,

You could add the IP addresses associated with their name servers via the following interface in WHM:

"WHM >> Configure Remote Service IPs"

Select the "Remote Name Server IPs" tab and enter the IP addresses associated with the name servers used by the domain names. This will allow you to park the domain names.

    Thank you.

    Thanks for your help!

Will this work even though my whm won't have the ability to update the dns via those other name servers?

It will allow you to add those domain names via cPanel. You'd still need to ensure the DNS records (e.g. "A", "CNAME") are updated at the remote servers that host the DNS for the domain names.

    Thank you.
