Password protect directories cannot add user

I cannot add user in the password directory. Can activate password protection but cannot add user.

Tried updating cpanel with and without force. Tried stopping and starting cpanel. nothing works. Any ideas?

Now I have the same problem just different server. Also tried removing the .htaccess file. That did not fix it.

I figured it out

i removed .htpasswd/ directory in his root directory and then readded that user so it would recreate that directory

root@lrm104 [/home/aceimag/.htpasswds]# cd ../
root@lrm104 [/home/aceimag]# rm -rf .htpasswds/
root@lrm104 [/home/aceimag]# ll
