Hi all,

New here and for my first post I'd like to ask probably one of the noobest questions! :D

Should I password protect my directories and if so, which ones?

I'm guessing not the public_html but after that I really don't know.

I feel like I probably should... but again, I'm unsure and I don't want to stuff up my site.

Thanks! :p

Hi Scott,

You need to password protect any files & folders that are meant to be confidential or contain your private/sensitive data. Such as Administrative section of your site/forums/shopping cart, etc, or any private folder which contains your password file or any such sensitive info should be password protected :) Enjoy cPanel !!! :)

Thanks very much for the quick reply!

At present I have no confidential stuff up there, so I figure I don't need to worry about it yet however I probably will down the track if my plans to get a forum going come to fruition (mind you, I better learn about it first!).

I expect I'll be here a bit!
:D:D:D

You really should be asking your host for assistance, these forums are for server administrators that run cPanel on their servers. Your host is the one to ask about running software on your account with them, or how to operate your cPanel.

Good luck with your new site!
