My shared hosting account doesn't have this on by default as it is running cPanel 11.

And they don't really want to install anything that isn't officially supported by cPanel.

Is there any timeline on when cPanel will support PDO_mysql out the box?

PDO MySQL is currently supported in cPanel 11. It's PDO for everything else that is currently unsupported.

    Oh right...

So if it's supported is it active by default?

Is there any info I can pass on to my host?

This is the info from cPanel:

    cPanel Version 11.17.4-CURRENT
    cPanel Build 19834

Your host will need to recompile PHP with support for PDO, if they don't have it already enabled. And PDO_MYSQL
